Purchasing Agent / Buyer

Purchasing Agents / Buyers at Famous Supply purchase products from suppliers and ensure adequate inventory levels are maintained at all locations for their assigned product lines. They negotiate with suppliers to procure high quality products, delivered on-time, at the lowest total cost. 

Primary Job Responsibilities 

  • Reviews requisitions and releases purchase orders in a timely manner to meet customer requirements. 

  • Responsible for maintaining sufficient levels of inventory at branches and distribution centers to meet customer demand while achieving company inventory turnover objectives. 

  • Establish and maintains purchasing data such as price, landed cost, lead-time, order quantity, and product description. 

  • Assists with product line and SKU inventory strategy (stock vs. non-stock status). 

  • Expedites delivery of products and maintains credible delivery information for purchase orders.  Drives suppliers for excellent delivery performance. 

  • Negotiate costs with suppliers 

  • Evaluates potential suppliers and recommends sources of supply based on alignment with company expectations. 

  • Stay up to date on industry and product knowledge and market trends 

  • Measures and monitors purchasing and inventory metrics and strives for high performance 

Required Experience and Skills 

  • 3-5 years’ experience in Purchasing 

  • Negotiation skills 

  • Computer skills 

  • Ability to effectively communicate 

  • Prioritization, task and time management 

  • Thoroughness and attention to detail 

Preferred Experience and Skills 

  • Distribution industry experience and requisite product knowledge 

  • Experience using Epicor’s Eclipse ERP system 

  • Proficient using Excel 

  • International freight and import compliance knowledge
